A reader has alerted us to a discussion paper released by the Attorney-General’s Department suggesting that ISPs would be required to store user activity online for a period of 2 years.
What Is Happening?
- Parliament is considering new security proposals
- People could be forced to hand over passwords
- Government says intelligence agencies need access
The new security expansion would mean everything from social networking to emails would be monitored and stored, and intelligence agencies would be given increased access to sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
We have till 6 August 2012 to comment before the online security is passed into law.
