What exactly are we talking about when we refer to ‘cultural heritage’?
While researching an update to last year’s Burrup Peninsula story, we came across a fascinating poll hidden on the margins of the Australian Conservation Foundation website.
When asked their opinion on the statement, “Protecting our cultural heritage is as important as protecting our natural heritage,” an overwhelming 61% of ACF website visitors considered cultural heritage more important to preserve than natural heritage.
But we’d like to take the ACF poll one step further.
We all know it’s important to preserve but what exactly is cultural heritage?
We could tell you what we reckon it is but we’re more interested what you think.
The more we talk about this, the clearer the conversation will be.
SO…
Please take a minute to type out roughly what the phrase, cultural heritage means to you.
Of course, there’s no right or wrong answer (we suspect the differences in definition will be immense), so type away and lets get this conversation started!

Cultural heritage is a collective material expression of our spiritual values: the way we interact with each other with respect, generosity, democracy, courtesy and more is what propagates the things we build, how we dress, our social customs, how we sing and dance, how we choose to live, and provides the lens we apply and have applied to understanding the world.
