He is one of the world’s leading Place Making practitioners and passionately promotes the new story of living, playing, working and shopping within a sustainable framework. He sees Place making as the ‘new environmentalism’ where people can make a difference both locally and globally through their reconnection to place.

Peter Kenyon founder and Director of the Bank of I.D.E.A.S. which incorporates ther Centre For Small Town Development is a social entrepreneur and community enthusiast who has worked for over 1000 communities throughout Australia and overseas.

What’s It All About?

The idea is to reflect on a future where we create more community control over our socio-cultural and economic systems to make sure local communities operate within their ecological limits and maximise their potential to function as healthy, resilient and inclusive societies and economies.

Transition Initiatives – Four Key Assumptions

  • That life with dramatically lower energy consumption is inevitable and that it’s better to plan for it than to be taken by surprise
  • That our settlements and communities currently lack the resilience to enable them to weather the severe energy shocks that will accompany peak oil
  • That we have to act collectively and we have to act now
  • That by unleashing the collective genius of those around us to creatively and proactively design our energy descent, we can build ways of living that are more connected, more enriching and that recognise the biological limits of our planet.
