Lane Burdett has sent us info about a new community project designed to keep Victorians up-to-date with fire news this summer.

A new website – created by Harshit Sekhon – uses live feeds from the CFA/MFB, Police and the Bureau of Meteorology to show graphically where fires are in Victoria at any given point in time. It also shows the wind direction and temperature etc.

Using Code Red Bushfire Information

After keying in your address you are shown ‘Where you are on the map’ then you’ll be able to locate the nearest Police Stations and see markers to indicate the latest available information provided by the CFA.

You’ll be able to locate and identify fires that are:

  • ‘going on’
  • ‘contained’
  • ‘controlled’
  • ‘safe’

Find Safety Zones

Three circles on the map will represent safety zones to let you know how soon an emergency service can reach if there’s a fire near you.

  • A green circle shows the area within 10KM from the address entered
  • An orange circle covers a 25KM radius
  • A light red circle covers 45KM

This is a ‘work in progress’ and we’ll post more info about the project soon. Other fire-prone states could be interested too?
